Killer Mike burst onto the hip-hop scene with his show-stealing turn on OutKast’s “The Whole World” in 2001. Running with the Dungeon Family, 2003’s debut album Monster showcased his furious flow, while the fan favorite I Pledge Allegiance to the Grind series helped carry the ATLien through the aughts. But it was his team-up with the Brooklyn-based El-P for 2012’s R.A.P. Music that kick-started the second phase of his career. Over stripped-down and pummeling beats, Mike upped the political content of his raps—and he hasn’t looked back since.
