Hailing from Isla Vista, CA, 21st-century chillers Rebelution deploy the classic tropes of roots reggae to heighten consciousness and relax the soul. On “Sky Is the Limit,” they blend the bright timbres of ska horns with mellowed-out rock guitar chords, while “Roots Reggae Music” sees them teaming up with Black Uhuru’s Don Carlos to celebrate the sound of Jamaica. The gurgling groove of “Feeling Alright” strikes a balance between righteousness and relaxation, with lead singer Eric Rachmany admitting, “I’m trying to pick up the soul’s intention/To soak in music relaxation.”
