Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley has simultaneously embraced his family’s legacy while fighting his way out of its massive shadow. Inspired by his elder siblings, Marley began deejaying as a pre-teen, and his ’96 debut Mr. Marley showed a raw 18-year-old focused on teaching and uplifting through music. His 2005 release Welcome to Jamrock, a critical and commercial success, finally pushed Marley to stardom. The reggae artist also went on to join forces with Mick Jagger, Joss Stone, Dave Stewart, and A. R. Rahman to form the short-lived supergroup SuperHeavy.
