Sean "Diddy" Combs Convicted of Prostitution-Related Offense, Acquitted of Major Charges
NEW YORK, NY – July 2, 2025 – In a highly anticipated verdict that concludes a seven-week federal trial, Sean “Diddy” Combs, the influential hip-hop mogul, has been convicted of a prostitution-related offense but acquitted of the most severe charges he faced, including sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy. The mixed verdict was delivered by a jury of eight men and four women on the third day of deliberations in a New York federal court.

Combs, 55, was found guilty of violating the federal Mann Act, which prohibits transporting individuals across state lines for illicit sexual encounters. This felony conviction stems from allegations that he flew individuals, including his girlfriends and paid male sex workers, around the country for sexual activities. While this conviction could carry a prison sentence of up to a decade, it marks a significant departure from the life sentences he could have faced had he been found guilty of the racketeering and sex trafficking charges.
The jury notably acquitted Combs of the more serious charges of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking. Prosecutors had alleged that Combs used his vast empire and influence to run a criminal enterprise, coercing women into drug-fueled “freak-offs” and covering up his actions through violence and manipulation. The defense, led by attorneys Marc Agnifilo and Teny Geragos, had vehemently argued that prosecutors were attempting to criminalize Combs’ “swinger lifestyle” and that any instances of violence amounted to domestic disputes, not federal felonies.
The trial saw extensive testimony from over 30 prosecution witnesses, including his former long-term girlfriend, R&B singer Casandra “Cassie” Ventura, and another woman who testified under the pseudonym “Jane.” Both women provided emotional accounts of alleged abuse, forced sexual encounters, and drug use. The defense, which did not call any witnesses, largely relied on cross-examining prosecution witnesses and highlighting inconsistencies in their testimonies, suggesting that many of the accusations were financially motivated.
The jury’s deliberations were complex, with a note sent to Judge Arun Subramanian on Tuesday indicating they had reached a verdict on four of the five counts but were deadlocked on the racketeering conspiracy charge due to “unpersuadable opinions on both sides.” Judge Subramanian instructed them to continue deliberating, ultimately leading to today’s full verdict.
While the acquittal on the most severe charges comes as a partial relief for Combs, the conviction on the prostitution-related offense is still a significant blow to his public image and career. The legal battles for Combs are far from over, as he still faces numerous civil lawsuits alleging sexual assault and other misconduct.
The outcome of this trial will undoubtedly have lasting implications for Sean “Diddy” Combs, likely marking a definitive end to his reign as one of hip-hop’s most celebrated and powerful figures. Sentencing for the Mann Act violation will be determined at a later date.
