The roar of engines, the blur of speed, and the relentless pursuit of glory – these are the hallmarks of Formula 1, and now they’ve been brought to the big screen in the much-anticipated film, “F1.” Starring Brad Pitt and Damson Idris, and with significant input from seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton, the movie aims to deliver an authentic and thrilling look at the pinnacle of motorsport.

Directed by Joseph Kosinski, known for his work on “Top Gun: Maverick,” and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, “F1” immerses audiences in the high-stakes world of a fictional F1 team, APXGP. The film centers on Sonny Hayes (Brad Pitt), a former F1 prodigy from the 1990s whose career was cut short by a devastating accident. Thirty years later, he’s coaxed out of a nomadic racing life by his former teammate and now struggling APXGP owner, Ruben Cervantes (Javier Bardem).

Hayes’ mission: to save the team from collapse and mentor their hotshot rookie, Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris). The dynamic between the aging, experienced Hayes and the ambitious, raw talent of Pearce forms the emotional core of the film, exploring themes of redemption, mentorship, and the fierce competition that exists even within a team.

What sets “F1” apart and has garnered significant attention is its commitment to authenticity. Filming took place during actual Grand Prix weekends throughout the 2023 and 2024 F1 seasons, with the fictional APXGP team cars slotting in alongside real F1 outfits in the pit lane. This unprecedented access allowed Kosinski and his team to capture the true atmosphere and intensity of an F1 race. Brad Pitt and Damson Idris reportedly performed a significant amount of their own driving in purpose-built F2 cars, further enhancing the realism.

Lewis Hamilton’s involvement as a producer was crucial in ensuring the film’s accuracy and understanding of the sport’s intricacies. As Pitt himself noted, the challenge was to create a story that would appeal to both seasoned F1 fans and newcomers, providing enough technical detail to satisfy the former while remaining accessible and engaging for the latter.

“F1” promises a blend of fast-paced racing action, compelling character arcs, and the adrenaline-fueled drama inherent to the sport. With its recent international release and a strong opening weekend at the box office, it appears to have successfully delivered a thrilling cinematic experience that transports viewers directly into the heart of Formula 1. Whether you’re a lifelong fan or new to the world of F1, the movie offers a captivating ride that celebrates the passion, skill, and sheer spectacle of elite motorsport.
